Experiencing Brussels

May 20th, 2017

This year’s spring tour led us on May 20th, 2017 to Brussels, the centre oft he European Union. 47 club members and friends participated including three families with children.

After a two-hour drive, we reached Brussels where two friendly city guides were waiting for us at the cathedral St. Michael and Gudula. As usual, we were offered a German and English city tour. Both groups enjoyed an informative, often also humorous, walk trough the city full of interesting details. We started with a visit of  the cathedral featuring architecture of the early Gothic period and spectacular windows   which make it one of the most beautiful churches in Belgium.

After that, we walked through the old town to the Great Market. With the representative city hall and its magnificent guild and bourgeois houses one of the most gorgeous places in Europe. We continued trough narrow and busy alleys to Brussels landmark, the little, dressed-up Manneken-Pis. This ended our 90 minute city tour, which gave us an understanding of this open-minded city.

We then had the opportunity to explore the city on our own, which everyone enjoyed doing in his/her own way. At 18:00 h, the bus returned to Jülich which we safely reached around 20:00 h ending an eventful day.
