In honour of the 500th birthday of Wilhelm V (1516-1592), Duke of Jülich-Cleves-Berg, Steffen Hebestreit gave our club an interesting talk about the duke's life and work on 27.9.2016.
The Renaissance prince is one of the most important figures in Jülich's over-2000-year history.
The speaker, who has been a volunteer in the Museum Zitadelle Jülich for over a year and is very familiar with the history of Jülich, gave the approximately 30 listeners a vivid portrait of the duke's activities in the changing times of the 16th century, illustrated by interesting images and amusing anecdotes. The speech concluded with a description of the construction of the citadel and plan of the city, which were directed by Italian architect Alessandro Pasqualini. The club members thanked Steffen Hebestreit for his informative talk with a hearty round of applause.
