A Colorful Party Found Lots of Appeal

One long-term tradition of the International Club is to end the summer with a party.  On 16 September 2017, the theme of this year’s “Summer Fest” was “Asia”, since many members and guests are from that region. Sandrine Cowling, who has been president of the club for nearly six years, greeted the nearly 100 guests, including many families with children, in English and German.  Sadly, Sandine informed the club that she will not be able for another term of office, which everyone was very sorry to hear. She encouraged the members to elect a new board in January 2018 in order to continue the Club’s wide variety of activities.

Next, a cultural program focused on Asia awaited the guests.  It started with a demonstration of Taekwondo by children and teens from Koslar.  This Asian sport requires skill rather than strength and received enthusiastic applause.  Prof. Da Zhang from China played the viola da gamba, giving us insight into unknown but impressive music, for which he received hearty applause.  The cultural program concluded with a flute quartet from the Chinese Hulusi Ensemble, whose colorful costumes and original musical instruments were also extremely well-received.

After the cultural program, the buffet was opened. Members brought original Asian dishes as well as salads, finger foods and desserts.  Everyone had an opportunity to chat with old friends and new, in English or German according to the international character of our club.  As the evening drew to an end around 11:00 pm, everyone agreed that once again our members made the Summer Fest a resounding success.
